Clecy - Pont d'Ouilly

 Thursday 16th April

Today's walk took us up to the Voie Verte again, but this time turning left, first past the tiny village of Le Vey, then following the track around a loop in the beautiful River Orne.

All the way we were entertained by the paragliders jumping off the top of the rock face and enjoying swooping around over our heads. (Click on photo to see them more clearly.)

Really good to have a break at one of the picnic areas.
Some of the houses around here are so attractive.  This one leads down to the riverside ....

Friday 17th April

On our way to Clecy the other day, we drove straight through another village on the river, Pont d'Ouilly.  It looked very attractive, so we decided to take the scenic route back there this morning and have one night on the Aire de Camping-Car.

Our lunchtime (and more) was spent in the sunshine on our pitch beside the river with just ducks to entertain us.  Yes, John moved into the shade of the willow tree after a while.

But we needed to see a bit more, so walked back to the bridge and along the grassy promenade

Several noticeboards gave us some history of WW2 happenings here, including one describing the day in 1944 when the Allies dropped a bomb on the Nazis, but it triggered the mines that the Germans had laid and it blew up the bridge!

Also of note is that the town is twinned with Chipping Campden.

We had a drink at a cafe by the water and watched a family paddling by.
When they got to the weir, they had fun in the canoe down the weir shute.
